The American rapper Notorious B.I.G. was tragically gunned down in March 1997, but his legend lives on through his music. Though he was only 24 when he died, he managed to record some of the most recognizable hip hop lyrics in the music industry. No music lover's collection would be complete without Notorious B.I.G. mixtapes that highlight the work of this hip hop genius.

Popularly referred to as Biggie Smalls or Big Poppa, Christopher Wallace had an important message to relay and he did it by doing what he knew best.rapping. His debut album, ominously titled Ready to Die, was released in 1994. Wallace represented the East Coast at a time when West Coast rap artists were more common.

Unfortunately, Wallace became a part of the East Coast/West Coast rivalry, which turned violent, and some believe this resulted in his death. Notorious B.I.G. mixtapes capture a verbal portion of the sparring contained in some of his songs. In his short lifetime, this artist became so popular that two albums have been released since his death. You will be hard-pressed to find a classic hip-hop mixtape that does not contain at least one song by Notorious B.I.G.

Known for his ability to tell stories in an easy manner and lyrics that were both dark and semi-autobiographical, his songs hit home with many listeners. In what some feel was foreshadowing, his double-disc set, which was released a mere 15 days after his death, was titled Life After Death. it topped the U.S. album charts and was one of only a few hip hop albums to be certified Diamond, with songs soon being included in Notorious B.I.G. mixtapes.

Notorious B.I.G. mixtapes are a must-have for anyone who enjoys this style of music. Whether he was rapping alone or with his best friend, Sean Diddy Combs, his songs were always true to his thoughts and beliefs. A hole in the music world was created when this landmark artist died before he could show us all he had to give.

This week there have been huge solar storms on the sun – and Nasa has been snapping away with its high-tech cameras, producing some incredible photographs.

They capture the sun in all its violent glory, with its surface a maelstrom of activity.

Nasa's Solar Dynamics Observatory is able to differentiate between different temperate levels on the sun, so it's able to take amazing kaleidoscopic pictures.

Swirling: The dark areas – called coronal holes – are places where very little radiation is emitted, yet are the main source of solar wind particles

Heat is on: This picture highlights the outer atmosphere of the Sun – called the corona – as well as hot flare plasma

The giant explosions from our star have been hosing Earth with radiation and shaking Earth's magnetic field, but scientists said they had no reports of any problems with electrical systems.

Afterreports yesterday of the storm fizzling out, a surge of activity prompted space weather forecasters to issue alerts about changes in the magnetic field.

'We really haven't had any reports from power system operators yet,' Rob Steenburgh, a space weather forecaster at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder,Colorado, said early today. 'But sometimes they don't come in until after the storm.'

He said the storm reached a moderate level late Thursday, before going to a strong level early on Friday. Formost of Thursday, it was rated as minor, but still gave skywatchers spectacular Northern Lights.

Scientists say such storms don't pose a threat to people, just technology.

The space weather center's website says a storm rated as strong could force corrections to voltage systems and trigger false alarms on some protection devices, as well as increasedrag on satellites and affect their orientation.

This flare was categorized as an X5.4, making it the second largest flare — after an X6.9 on August 9, 2011 — since the sun's activity segued into a period of relatively low activity called solar minimum in early 2007

The forecasters weren't aware of any significant impact to electrical or technological systems, but said there was a two-hour blackout of high frequency radio communications – affecting mainly ham radio operations – stretching from eastern Africa to eastern Australia.

Steenburgh also said that there was another solar flare late Thursday, similar to the one a few days ago that set off the current storm.

'Right now we're still analysing when it will arrive' and how strong it could be, he said.

WHAT ARE SOLAR STORMS – AND HOW CAN THEY AFFECT US?

A solar radiation storm, is much what it sounds like: an blast of radiation from the Sun towards the Earth, made up of protons and other charged particles.

The radiation is blocked by the magnetosphere and atmosphere, so cannot reach humans on Earth. Such a storm could, however, harm humans traveling from Earth to the Moon or Mars, though it has little to no effect on aeroplane passengers or astronauts within Earth's magnetosphere.

Solar radiation storms can also disturb the regions through which high frequency radio communications travel.

This week's storm did not cause significant effects to key electricalor technological systems, but there was a two-hour blackout of highfrequency radio communications – affecting mainly ham radio operations -stretching from eastern Africa to eastern Australia.

Therefore, during a solar radiation storm, planes raveling routes near the poles – which cannot use GPS, but rely exclusively on radio communications – may be re-routed.

The space weather center had reports of Northern Lights across Canada and dipping into the northern tier of U.S. states, Steenburgh said.

While some experts thought the threat from the solar storm passed by earlier Thursday, the space weather center maintained the storm's effects could continue through Friday morning.

The current storm, which started with asolar flare Tuesday evening, caused a stir Wednesday because forecasts were for a strong storm with the potential to knock electrical grids offline, mess with GPS and harm satellites. It even forced airlines to reroute a few flights on Thursday.

It was never seen as a threat to people, just technology, and teased skywatchers with the prospect of colorful Northern Lights dipping further south.

But when the storm finally arrived around 6 a.m. EST Thursday, after traveling at 2.7 million mph, it was more a magnetic breeze than a gale. The power stayed on. So did GPS and satellites. And the promise of auroras seemed to be more of a mirage.

Scientists initially figured the stormwould be the worst since 2006, but now seems only as bad as ones a few months ago, said Joe Kunches, a scientist at the NOAA center. The strongest storm in recorded history was probably in 1859, he said.

'It's not a terribly strong event. It's a very interesting event,' Kunches said.

Forecasters can predict the speed a solar storm travels and its strength, but the north-south orientation isthe wild card. This time it was a northern orientation, which is 'pretty benign,' Kunches said. Southern would have caused the most damaging technological disruption and biggest auroras.

On Thursday, North American utilities didn't report any problems, said Kimberly Mielcarek, spokeswoman for theNorth American Electric Reliability Corporation, a consortium of electricity grid operators. Her office didn't respond to a phone call early Friday.

Astronomers say the sun has been relatively quiet for some time. And this storm, forecast to be strong and ending up minor, still may seem fiercer because Earth has been lulled by several years of weak solar activity.

The storm is part of the sun's normal 11-year cycle, which is supposed to reach a peak next year. Storms as large as the latest one will probably happen several more times as the cycle ramps up to that peak, scientists said.

The region of the sun that erupted canstill send more blasts our way, Kunches said. Another set of active sunspots is ready to aim at Earth.

'This is a big sun spot group, particularly nasty,' NASA's Hathaway said. 'Things are really twisted upand mixed up. It keeps flaring.'

Storms like this start with sun spots. First, there's an initial solar flare of subatomic particles thatresembles a filament coming out of the sun.

Thatpart usually reaches Earth only minutes after the initial burst, bringing radio and radiation disturbances. Next is the coronal mass ejection, which looks like a growing bubble and takes a couple days to reach Earth.

Solar storms have three ways they can disrupt technology on Earth: with magnetic, radio and radiation emissions. In 1989, a strong solar storm knocked out the power grid in Quebec, causing 6 million people to lose power.

For North America, the good part of a solar storm – the one that creates more noticeable auroras or Northern Lights – was likely to peak Thursday evening.

Auroras were likely to dip only as far south as the northern edges of the United States, Kunches said, but a full moon would make them harder to see.Solar storms can bring additional radiation around the north and south poles – a risk that sometimes forces airlines to reroute flights.

On Thursday, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines sent 11 flights to Asia on a more southern route rather than their more common path over the Arctic. Three American Airlines flights flew lower than normal over the northernmost parts of their routes to Japan and China.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A lot has happened in the 7 and a half years since Jon Heder hit the screens in a low-budget indie film called "Napoleon Dynamite."

Then, he promoted the film at a few small theaters out of love for the project that had earned him just $1,000. Fox Searchlight Pictures gave free screenings and passed out bags of props in hopes the film would become a cult classic. (It did, grossing $46 million.)

Now, Heder has just wrapped up a five-day tour to promote Fox's new animated series of the same name. He hop scotched from Boston to Chicago to Dallas to his hometown Salem and Portland to promote the TV show, which airs at 7:30 Sundays, between "The Simpsons" and "The Family Guy."

"This is more like work," he says. "I mean, it's fun, but … you're hitting up radio stations, five in a hour. I'm a little more used to it, but it's hectic."

But hectic has its rewards. He's greeting the reporter and photographer in a very nice suite at Portland's Vintage Plaza Hotel. And those flights across the country? First class.

"First class rocks," he says. "I told myself I should not fly first class, I should get used to coach. … Most of those Hollywood luxuries I am not privy to, but man, first class is nice."

He's casually dressed in dark blue denim shirt, dark green pants and hiking boots. His wavy brown hair is a little past due for a haircut, but nothing like "Napoleon's" wild blond locks. He talks very fast and uses his hands. Asked to pose for a photo in a "menacing but flirty" posture, he plays along (and nails it).

In between the two "Napoleons," it's been an exciting ride. Heder has appeared on "Late Night With David Letterman" and hosted "Saturday Night Live." He's starred in six films, the most recent of which, "For Ellen," just opened at Sundance.

Fox may pick up the animated "Napoleon Dynamite" for a second season. And Heder hopes to appear in another feature film this summer.

"It's called 'Alive and Well.' It's about Buddy Holly," he says. "It's kind of sci fi-slash-comedy. It's a very weird movie, but it's a great script, and I hope we can get it made."

Along the way, Heder has had opportunities to pick up what both he and the fictional Napoleon refer to, reverentially, as skills.

CELEBRITY TV chief Mario Batali who owns a restaurant in New York, has been sued by his workers for cheating them of their tips, and not paying minimum wage and overtime.

Last Monday, at the New York federal court in Manhattan, Batali and his associate Joseph Bastianich agreed to settle the class-action suit for $5.25 million, Bloomberg News said.

In 2010, servers at restaurants including Babbo and Del Posto had sued their employers for alleged violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This was in line with their alleged pocketing of gratuities equal to up to five percent of nightly wine sales.

In their complaint, the employees said the two and their restaurants had “unlawfully confiscated a portion of their workers’ hard-earned tips in order to supplement their own profits.”

The settlement may cover as many as 1,100 employees who worked at Babbo, Del Posto, Bar Jamon, Casa Mono, Esca, Lupa, Otto and Tarry Lodge, from as far back as 2004.

These include waiters, servers and bartenders.

Rachel M. Bien one of the employees’ lawyers, said all parties were satisfied with the settlement.

This is not the first time the celebrity chef has landed in hot water.

Last November, he was criticized for taking a dig at bankers during a Time magazine-sponsored panel.

“The ways the bankers have kind of toppled the way money is distributed and taken most of it into their hands is as good as Stalin or Hitler and the evil guys,” Batali said.

Stung, financial industry executives called for a boycott of his establishments, leading Batali to apologize the next day for his remarks.

Batali can currently be seen on the public television series On the Road Again taste-testing Spanish food with actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

The start of the NCAA's men's basketball tournament – the billion dollar television property known as March Madness – with its 68-team field that includes universities like Wofford and Belmont, is the perfect opportunity to once again bring up the organization's hypocrisy when it comes to deciding a football champion. While the egalitarian basketball tournaments – what the heck, we can throw the women's side in here as well – are open to a variety of team's, the big and the small, the public and the private, the well-funded and the shoestring budgets, the domain of college football is a study in elitism.

The so-called Bowl Championship Series conferences (SEC, Big 10, Pac 10, Big 12, Big East and ACC.along with a special exemption for Notre Dame) call all of the shots in college football and if someone doesn't like it, they're more than happy to take their ball and go home. the conferences, all of whom make millions of dollars for their member schools with television contracts, like to be an exclusive club. a college football country club if you will. Working with the out-dated bowl system, which is fought for (justly in a lot of cases) by the local officials that are afraid of being shut out of the tourism money train, the NCAA has become a hostage to the big money football programs that make up those six conferences and Notre Dame.

In the football set-up, there are rules in place to minimize the number of teams from outside of the power conferences that have an opportunity to play in a big-money bowl game. never mind the actual championship game. that is decided by a Byzantine formula that seems to factor in television ratings and bankrolls of boosters as much as it does anything involved in the playing of the sport. At most, there are two teams from outside of the major conferences that take part in the bowls that are designated as the BCS. (We'll save the complete waste of time that the series of lesser bowls have become over the years for a December post, while I'm watching the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.)

The argument that the NCAA trots out for doing things the way that they do, and not replacing it with the sort of playoff system that is used for college basketball is that it would be academically detrimental to the football players. the governing body, of course, has never explained why it's not detrimental to the studies of football players at every other level of college football, which do participate in a playoff, or why it's ok for the basketball teams to miss large chunks of classes during the month of March. So, while you're remembering back to last season, when a tiny school in Indianapolis named Butler almost upset ACC powerhouse Duke, take a moment to remember that you would never see that kind of story in college football.

Nor will you ever see something like this year's upset of traditional basketball power Louisville by Morehead State during the early rounds of the men's basketball tournament. the college football powers- that-be would have you believe that such a thing would be bad for business. Faced with the fact that such upsets actually enhance the public's interest in their men's basketball tournament, college football shrugs its shoulders and issues a collective, Yeah, well that's basketball. Yes, it is basketball and I'll sit back and enjoy the bracket-busting little guys as they fight to play games for another two weeks. In the end, the schools with the marquee names and the big money will still, if history is any indication, come out on top in the end.

But no one can ever say that everyone didn't have a chance. Meanwhile, most of college football's 120 Division I Football Bowl Subdivision teams have already been eliminated from championship contention.and their season doesn't start for another five months. Time for the BCS to graduate from High School already

Cast members Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle and Raphael Sbarge – along with creators and executive producers Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz and Steve Pearlman – took the stage and talked about the show's creation, teased spoilers and proved that curses can be broken.

So how did the top-rated new drama of the season come to be?

"Everyone on this stage was our first choice," said Kitsis of the drama's good fortune in the casting department, adding that the show may be based on fairy tales, yet "it's not about the stories you've seen but about where they could go."

But what's up with this curse? If true love's kiss can break it, why hasn't David and Mary Margaret's smooching changed anything?

"They can kiss all they want," Kitsis teased. "They're not the savior."

If that honor falls to Emma, though, what if she doesn't believe there's a curse to break? Morrison says her character thinks Henry's story is simply a coping mechanism for a confused little boy… but that could change.

"She's going to start to think that something's up. She's just not sure what," previewed the actress.

Will Kathryn disappearing from Storybrooke pave the way for a David and Mary Margaret reunion? Not exactly, I'm afraid. Josh Dallas said that David feels "guilty and responsible for her disappearance." And even after her vanishing act is resolved, there may be more obstacles ahead for these star crossed lovers. Remember, no one gets a happy ending in Storybrooke.

But that doesn't mean they aren't working towards it. Raphael Sbarge explained that Henry isn't Archie's only patient. Both David and Mr. Gold are about to hit the shrink's couch, as Dallas joked that "David's got problems" and Carlyle added that poor Mr. Gold has no one else to talk to. That's not for a lack of charm on the actor's part, however.

"No offense, but it's kind of hard to be afraid of you as you're lovely and wonderful," Goodwin told her co-star.

Will fans get to know more about August Booth, the new writer in a town that doesn't generally get visitors? The producers promise that before we get to the season finale, "we'll be pretty clear on who he is."

Some fans are still wondering if Graham is truly dead, too. Parrilla said that "It's getting lonely in Storybooke" and Regina misses her boy toy. Unfortunately, the good sheriff is, indeed, dead and gone – and Morrison lamented that she'll miss "kissing one of the hottest men on the planet" but at least there's this:

"He may have had his heart ripped out in Storybrooke, but he's still very much alive in fairy tale land," Kitsis said.

Speaking of which, one fan thanked Dallas for moving her 12-year old granddaughter's crush to him and away from Justin Beiber. See. Curses really can be broken.

Other teases from the panel included:

• Barbara Hershey will arrive on episode 18 as the Evil Queen’s mother, Cora.
• Regina will have one line in that episode about her background that will make fans “realize she has a very interesting connection to a certain somebody in our world,” Kitsis said.
• Might Kristin Bauer return as Maleficent? “I think it’d be disappointing if we never saw her again," said Kitsis.
• The show is hoping for a Little Mermaid episode on season two.

As the curtains came down on the 2000th Test, and the 100th between the India and England, the home side's desire to win proved to be stronger than the visitors' resolve to stay in the battle. They needed a major innings from either Rahul Dravid, Laxman or Sachin Tendulkar, who was looking for his hundredth international hundred in his final Test at Lord's, but none of them remained successful, even they get second life, as Dravid dropped a simple chance on 35 by Bell at short leg, Dravid added just one more run to his score before he flung the bat at a wide away-swinger from Anderson and was pouched by Matt Prior behind the stumps. Tendulkar was lucky to survive an lbw appeal from Stuart Broad,one of a number of poor decisions by umpire Billy Bowden and was dropped in the slips by England captain Strauss but then missed a straight ball from Anderson and was trapped in front for just 12 off 68 balls after that their fellow Indian batsmen did not have the ability to keep out a fired-up England attack.India battled through to tea with five wickets intact with Suresh Raina offering stern resistance as he made 78 off 136balls with 10×4's and the skipper MS Dhoni,the last recognized batting pair, going into the final session of the day but with the captian falling early, their chances too went up in smoke, Chris Tremlett removed captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni after making merely 16 which is not a captain responsibility and the tourists' tail offered little resistance.

Raina showed great stomach for fighting but in the face of the enormity of the task, his innings wasn't going to save India from the inevitable, none of the tail-enders try to stay at the crease to give Raina support, Harbhajan soon went when he plays that mosquito-swat hooky-pull of his and balloons the edge high and down to wide mid-on where Tremlett holds it easy.Then smart Stuart Broad cleaned up the remaining tail of Praveen Kumar for 2 and Ishant Sharma for 1 to completed a superb and historic victory in 2000th Test match.

James Anderson was the real hero in the second innings as he grabbed his 11th five wicket haul in the longest form of the game, he took 5 for 65 while Broad got 3 for 57 and India limped to 261 all out as England clinched the opening Test of the four-match series by 196 runs for a 1-0 lead in the four match series, going to Trent Bridge, the venue for the second Test. Kevin Pietersen remained Player of the match for his unforgettable 202 not out.

You may be having a typical Thursday, but the Earth is currently being blasted by a wave of radiation from a huge solar flare.

NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center said the solar storm hit the Earth at about 2:45 a.m. PT. The solar storm is one of the strongest in years and could cause disruptions in satellites, affect radio communications in polar areas, and even slightly decrease the efficiency of solar panels.

This solar storm follows a similarly strong one only two months ago. Here's a short primer on what's going on.

First, are these solar storms dangerous? In general, the physical danger is low and controllable. The biological hazard inherent in solar and geomagnetic storms comes from the exposure to radiation, which is mainly a concern for astronauts and people flying at high altitudes, according to NOAA's ranking of storm severity.

On the other hand, the disruptions that more severe storms can cause have the potential to bring about real damage. Milder storms may disrupt the satellites that handle GPS communications. But the more severe geomagnetic storms can spike the voltage in transmission lines which could damage grid transformers and potentially knock power out. A massive power outage in the province of Quebec in 1989 was blamed on a solar storm.

What's happening with today's storm?Today's storm is predicted to reach G3, which is a strong level. The solar radiation is at S3, also strong, and there was a strong-level radio blackout. NOAA this morning noted that "so far the orientation of the magnetic field has been opposite of what is needed to cause the strongest storming." Space forecasters will be closely watching this event as they go on for days.

The increased radiation, which collects along the Earth's poles, means that flights will likely be rerouted to avoid the North Pole, as some were earlier this year. Grid operators have also been notified to monitor potential power surges, according to NOAA.

The influx of super hot gases from the sun hits the magnetic field that protects the Earth and causes the waves of energy and particles to flow toward the poles and collide with the atmosphere. This causes fantastic, multi-hour displays known as auroras. These type of events bring out stargazers to watch the stunning green glow caused by the solar flare in northern countries.

What causes them?The sun is a big ball of burning gas and solar flares are loop-like explosions at the surface. These cause what are called a coronal mass ejection (CME), where a chunk of the sun breaks off from its atmosphere. The biggest flares can be tens of times the size of the Earth. When there is a coronal mass ejection, high-energy particles can travel at over 1,000 miles per second. This solar flare was caused by two CMEs on Tuesday and passed by several NASA spacecraft, according to NASA. There were also two CMEs caused by a solar flare on Sunday, NASA said.

When a CME dumps its solar particles and magnetic fields into the Earth's atmosphere, it distorts the Earth's magnetic fields and causes a geomagnetic storm, the source of potential grid disruptions.

Often, solar flares are too weak to be noticed or they don't move directly toward the Earth as is happening today. The biggest flares are X-class flares, which is what happened earlier this week. In 2006 an X-class flare caused a CME that interfered with GPS signals being sent to ground-based receivers. That's why operators of aircraft, satellites, and grid monitor the space forecast to take steps to avoid problems.

What's the forecast?The reason we're hearing more about solar flares is because we are moving toward a "solar maximum," a period of increased solar activity. These cycles, which are on average 11 years, mean an increase in the number of solar flares. The next maximum is expected in 2013, according to NASA. These cycles are analogous to seasons on Earth.

In addition to disruptions in radio communications and GPS systems, NOAA says that many smaller problems are possible with the uptick in solar activity. Specifically, many devices used for scientific experiments, such as measuring ozone and magnetic sensors for mapping fault lines and the ocean floor, could be impacted.

What are the chances for a really big one?Some space weather scientists argue that society and the economy need to be better equipped to predict or deal with a more severe event caused by solar activity.

The most well known severe event is called the Carrington Event of 1859, which experts now believe was two intense geomagnetic storms. The event caused disruptions in telegraph networks and green and white auroras were seen in many places around the world. According to a paper from 2011, telegraph operators disconnected their batteries and used the influx in current from the auroras to send messages. The economic costs today of such an event could be trillions of dollars, according to a 2009 U.S. House Homeland Security Committee.

Last month, space weather scientist Pete Riley published a paper that used statistical methods from other fields to try to ascertain the likelihood of another Carrington-like event. The results were not comforting: he found the chances of another extreme space weather event are 12 percent in the next decade, or one in eight. "The 12 percent number was a surprise; certainly to me, and to others I suspect," Riley told CNET.

Pool closing or winterizing can be a little more time consuming than opening or regular maintenance, but doing it the right way protects your investment and provides a cleaner, simpler opening the following spring. the simplest way to provide you with the correct information is this format of a checklist.

Use this checklist to make sure that you've done what's needed to winterize your pool the correct way so you can open up to a clean pool next spring.

Something to keep in mind when winterizing: your pool water WILL freeze Depending on where in the country you live, there may be a thin sheet of ice or it may freeze almost solid. the ONLY way to keep the pool from freezing is to turn it into a giant Martini. Be sure to check with your local builder if there are certain pool system items that require special attention.

First off, please consider doing TWO things about 2 weeks prior to closing your pool. Add a good Natural Enzyme product to eat up accumulations of greases, oils and other non-filtered organic waste in the pool. the second thing to consider treating is the bio-film growing on all of the pool surfaces – on the pool itself, in the filter system, in the plumbing lines, behind lights and ladders, etc. Bio-films directly contribute to the growth of white water mold, pink slime, scale and algae, not to mention significant problems such as Chlorine Demand and poor water balance. Please see my other articles dealing with these issues.

If you are or have been dealing any water quality issues such as algae or cloudy water or the pH being off, correct those problems BEFORE winterizing. Ignoring the problem now will only make it worse in the spring. Algae, white water mold and pink slime do not die over the winter, they only go dormant.

Adjust the water balance: pH 7.4 – 7.6, Total Alkalinity 90 – 130 ppm in vinyl or fiberglass pools, 80 – 120 ppm for gunite or plaster finish pools. Calcium hardness should be corrected to prevent long term pool surface degradation; a range of 175 – 250 ppm for all pools in acceptable. Water balance is especially crucial with freshly plastered gunite pools (done within 90 days of pool closing) to prevent staining and mottling of the new surface.

Let's go step by step and winterize the pool.

ALL POOLS (vinyl liner only):

[ ] Remove the ladders and any deck equipment

[ ] Vacuum the pool and remove all leaves and debris

[ ] Clean and protect the waterline with a good gel-type pool surface cleaner. do not use household cleaners on vinyl liners. this type of cleaner will help prevent a dirty water line build up over the winter.

[ ] Drain the Filter tank of ALL WATER. Leave winter drain plug off

[ ] put all eyeballs, drain caps, gauges, etc. in the pump basket for safekeeping. that way you know where everything is next spring.

[ ] Clean DE filter grids or Cartridge with a good Pool Filter Cleaner. do NOT use muriatic or sulfuric acid as these products will set the accumulated greases & oils into the fabric of the DE grids or Cartridge material. Consider using a quality enzyme based filter cleaner – tough on dirt, easy on the environment.

[ ] Bring the pump/motor indoors for winter and store it in a cool, dry place.

[ ] Winterize the heater (if equipped) according to the manufacturer's instructions. Failure to do so will cause winter damage and freezing. Be sure it is properly drained. As an extra measure, it is a very good idea to flush the heater with a good non-toxic pipeline Anti-freeze. If you have field mice in the area, add a mouse repellent to the heater area. Mice love to chew on wiring and build nests in the heater.

[ ] Remove the return eyeball(s) and install plug(s) or cap(s).

[ ] Winterize the skimmer(s). See below for pool type

[ ] put on the Winter Cover.

All Solid covers should FLOAT on the top of the water. Remember that mesh covers will immediately allow pool water to come UP from underneath the cover. Pools utilizing a mesh cover should consider DOUBLING the amount of winter shock and algicide to prevent algae growth.

DO NOT drain pool lower than bottom of skimmer (mesh covered pools only)

If a pillow is used to hold up the cover, inflate it to only to about 2/3 full. over inflation will cause air leakage and subsequent DE-flation of the air pillow.

[ ] Properly store the pool's maintenance equipment such as the vacuum, net, pole, etc. Automatic pool cleaners should be cleaned and rinsed of any dirt and silt.

INGROUND POOLS (vinyl liner only):

[ ] Thoroughly blow out the underground lines

[ ]Install Gizzmo(s) in the skimmer(s) or use an Aquador(s)

[ ] Add a good non-toxic pipeline antifreeze at the rate of about 1 gal. per 20 foot of line pipe run

[ ] Store the diving board (if equipped) in a flat, horizontal position

[ ] Safety covers should be re-tightened at time of installation

[ ] Add an additional dosage of Back Up Algicide in the spring (before opening) if a safety cover is used

ABOVEGROUND POOLS:

[ ] Winterize the skimmer with a sealing plate such as an AQUADOR. the use of such a plate allows you to keep the water level at a normal level which aids in keeping the winter cover up and prevents undue sagging.

[ ] Tighten the cable securely around cover.

[ ] use Cover Clips to further secure cover. another new product available to secure and seal the cover is with a roll of Pool Cover Wrap. DO NOT HANG BOTTLES: Bottles hung from the cover will tear the cover

DURING THE OFF-SEASON:

[ ] Remove leaves and heavy debris that accumulate on cover

[ ] Remove excess water from top of cover (A submersible cover pumpworks best). Once the pool freezes, there's not much to do until everything thaws.

For owners of gunite or plaster finish pools: Please check with your local builder for any special instructions they may have.

IMPORTANT WINTERIZING TIP:

ALL Chemical Winter Kits are made to properly WORK for a maximum of about 4 months. If the pool is going to be closed for a longer period of time (example closing before October 1 and opening after may 1), it is absolutely necessary to add additional shock and algaecide to the winterizing process. this will help to prevent not only algae growth but chlorine demand problems at pool opening.

A good closing and winterizing will provide you with a much simpler opening next spring.

Y para ser fiel a la película, FOX ha llamado de nuevo al elenco original de Napoleon Dynamite para que pongan las voces de sus respectivos personajes, y claro, entre ellos no podía faltar el actor latino Efrén Ramírez, quien dio vida a Pedro; el tímido y torpe adolescente hispano de quien Napoleon se hace amigo.

“Existen muchos fans allí afuera de Napoleon Dynamite quienes pedían una secuela o precuela y queríamos regresarles algo”, dijo el carismático Ramírez en entrevista telefónica desde Los Ángeles, su ciudad base. Ramírez, quien es de ascendencia salvadoreña y mexicana, se crió en el este de Los Ángeles y lleva 16 años como actor profesional desde que su madre lo inscribió a él y a su hermano en escuela de teatro “probablemente para evitar que nos metiéramos en travesuras… o quizá solamente para sacarnos de la casa”, dijo con risa.

Hoy en día, Ramírez, de 38 años, se considera un actor de carácter que desempeña distintos papeles como travesti en la película Crank o como un vendedor de drogas en la serie de televisión Eastbound and Down. Covering the spectrum of players worth watching in baseball's spring camps:

Buster Posey: We won't see this until the season starts, but it's coming – the inevitable collision at home plate. The Giants can talk all they want about Posey not blocking the plate, but he can't be planted to the side, swiping with his glove, on every play.

There will be a time when he has secured the ball, his footwork is perfect (two critical flaws in the Scott Cousins collision), and here comes a baserunner with his team down by a run, two outs in the ninth inning. He has to score that run, and he knows damn well he'll look like an idiot trying to execute a hook slide against a well-prepared catcher. That's when survival instincts take hold.

The Twins are facing this issue with often-injured catcher Joe Mauer, their most cherished player, and they've told him to absolutely block the plate when there's no other option. "There's a certain way to take a catcher out," Minnesota general manager Terry Ryan said, "and there are ways not to go after a guy. If you're going to be a catcher, you have to be prepared for a collision. That's part of the business."

In short: Posey doesn't have to be Mike Scioscia, who created impenetrable roadblocks and enjoyed the hell out of it. But there are no absolutes here.

Manny Ramirez: I try to hang with Billy Beane's reasoning whenever his deals stretch the boundaries of common sense, but this is a transaction with no redeeming features. No sacrifices made? How about organizational pride?

If you're partial to open-mindedness on ManRam, consider this observation from a Spanish-speaking insider who spent some time around Ramirez over the winter: "He truly seems like a changed person. I think he saw that he has no friends in the game after his suspension/retirement in Tampa.

"He also saw that his wife, Julianna, was going nowhere except to stay with him and raise their two boys. She could have easily cashed out and taken half, and instead decided to make things work. I think it's the first time Manny has seen that type of loyalty in his life, and she's inspiring him."

The A's young pitchers: Every time one of those "players to watch" lists appears up on a major outlet, you'll see the names of pitchers Brad Peacock, Jarrod Parker, Tommy Milone, A.J. Cole or Raul Alcantara – sometimes all at once. The strength of the A's minor-league system took a giant leap with those offseason trades, and it's intriguing from a Bay Area standpoint. The Giants have no starting pitchers in this young-and-exciting category, unless you count Eric Surkamp. (Zack Wheeler, who left in the Carlos Beltran deal, is considered the No. 1 prospect in the Mets' system.)

Miguel Cabrera: The Prince Fielder deal caused such a shakeup in Detroit, Cabrera is going to attempt to play third base at 265 pounds. He has the soft hands and athleticism of his Venezuelan countryman, Pablo Sandoval, so maybe he can do it. More to the point, Cabrera and Fielder could provide the best nightly show in the game. As some fans gasped in admiration during a recent Fielder batting-practice session, Cabrera turned to them and yelled, "Look who we've got!"

Bryce Harper: Every so often, a player comes along who doesn't need any minor-league training: Al Kaline, Ken Griffey Jr. and Albert Pujols, to name a few. Harper, the much-heralded right fielder with ridiculous power, could make that ascent in Washington. Don't miss the Nationals if Harper and Stephen Strasburg are in the lineup.

Yu Darvish: In contrast with nearly all players who have come to America from Japan, Darvish looks, acts and savors the part of a rock star. That only increases the horde of Japanese media – more than 100 of them monitored his every move in a recent long-toss session at the Rangers' camp. Don't say this isn't a distraction to a team, because it is.

Mike Matheny: Nobody's paying to watch someone manage, but it's fascinating to consider the ex-Giants catcher – a man with no managerial experience – replacing the great Tony La Russa in St. Louis. Matheny is one of those all-class guys you wish hadn't left the Giants' organization, along the lines of Omar Vizquel, Mark De Rosa and Ellis Burks. Intriguing, too, that Stanford alum Mike Aldrete, a Giants outfielder in the late '80s, will be Matheny's bench coach.

Paul Goldschmidt: This Arizona rookie killed the Giants last year with his awe-inspiring power, but he also struck out a lot. He'll have the first-base job, and if Goldschmidt is for real, he and Justin Upton provide a power combination the Giants can't come close to matching. The Diamondbacks are another team, incidentally, with exceptional young pitchers on the rise, notably Trevor Bauer (from UCLA) and 6-foot-4 lefty Tyler Skaggs.

Tim Lincecum: OK, enough concerns about the Giants. I've got them winning the NL West.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Don't be surprised if you see lots of kids wearing colorful costumes. Jews across the world are celebrating Purim; a joyous holiday that teaches lessons about courage and pride in your identity.

CBS 2’s Cindy Hsu went to a Purim celebration outside Abraham Joshua Heschel School on the Upper West Side on Thursday. The participants went all out to tell the story of Queen Esther. She saved the Jews from persecution in ancient Persia.

"She's brave and courageous and she saves everybody,” 11-year-old Omri Benichou said.

The kids wear costumes, because Esther had to disguise her Jewish identity to survive but then revealed herself to save the Jewish people.

"It's a really cool story because there's so many things that you wouldn't think would happen that happen,” 11-year-old Julia Benichou said.

So the celebration is often silly and fun.

"The kids have been going to school in their pajamas this week and the teachers have been switching identities that was all leading up to today,” Rabbi Anne Ebersman said.

As the story is retold, each time you hear the villain Haman's name you’ll hear a certain noisemaker.

"It's a gragger, so it's makes a lot of noise,” 11-year-old Nina Lindenbaum said, adding the sound is a reminder of the villain’s name.

There are also special Purim pastries.

"So Hamantaschen are pretty much cookies. The three corners represent Haman's hat,” student Lara Caligor said.

Another tradition is giving food to the poor and baskets of goodies to friends. Those baskets have become very creative.

The Lindenbaum family made a “Linsanity” basket, filled with different Purim treats and candy and things they exchange with their friends.

Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Poetry is alive and well in West Virginia. This weekend, the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts will host the state's semifinal and final rounds of the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest at the Culture Center Theater.

Twenty-three high school students from around the state will compete in the semifinal round on Friday with the top 10 returning Saturday for the finals, hosted by noted actor and Beckley native Chris Sarandon.

Joining Sarandon this year as a special guest and featured performer is Emmy-nominated actress and poet Amber Tamblyn. The 28-year-old Californian last appeared in Danny Boyles "127 Hours" with James Franco but is probably best known for playing Joan on CBS's "Joan of Arcadia."

"Poetry is something I've loved my whole life," Tamblyn said, "but it's not strange that people don't know that about me."

More than a few actors, she acknowledged, have artistic side projects that sometimes come to the light after they become celebrities. They play the banjo, go to college between movies or play in obscure rock bands to earn what Tamblyn called "extracurricular street cred."

For Tamblyn, her love of poetry didn't start after she got a TV show. She grew up with poetry.

"My parents raised me around a lot of poets, writers and musicians," she said. "People of that world. I just grew up around that culture."

Tamblyn is the daughter of Bonnie Murray Tamblyn, a folk singer, and Russ Tamblyn, an actor best known for his Oscar-nominated performance as Rif in the film version of "West Side Story."

She started writing poetry when she was 9 years old and began publishing while in her teens. She did not make a huge splash on the literary scene, but that was never the point.

"My mom used to take me to Kinkos," she said. "I would publish chapbooks and sell them at school for a dollar."

Better than whatever money she made was holding those books in her hands, Tamblyn said. She loved to see the hard copy of what she'd done.

She eventually did publish two books of poetry. A third, a poetry and painting collaboration with shock-rocker Marilyn Manson, is in the works.

"That might take a year or so," she laughed. "He's off on tour being his fabulous self, wrapped in saran wrap."

The two were introduced a few years ago by a mutual friend.

"He's a phenomenal artist and painter," she said, "and he's just very poetic."

Tamblyn said she doesn't know much about Manson's music. They're friends and artistic co-conspirators.

 Tamblyn has always surrounded herself with artistic and inspiring people. She's had a lot of mentors, including San Francisco poet laureate Jack Hirschman and poet/professor Jeffrey McDaniel, who helped her with her second book, "Bang, Ditto."

She also reads a lot of poetry. Tamblyn can rattle off a half-dozen favorites without even trying. Mindy Nettifee, Anne Sexton, Bob Hickock and Leonard Cohen are just a few.

"Cohen's 'Flowers for Hitler' is such a fantastic book," she said, adding that she's not really into his music.

"Who I like is all over the place, but what I like is poetry that resonates with the author, that means something to the creator. The most important poem is the one that's emotionally connected."

She can't stand poems written as an academic exercise, the kind meant to impress. She said, "I think a lot of people spend a lot of time trying to 'create' a great poem as opposed to intuit a great poem."

Writing poetry, she believes, doesn't have to be so hard. It doesn't have to be about obeying rules and forms.

The answer, to her, is metaphor and finding a way to say something without just saying it outright and, in doing that, saying something that means more than a simple statement of fact. 

"Everybody has got their own technique," she said. "The question is how do you tap into that inner voice that feels like stream of conscious, that feels like it's connected to something deeper than just writing in a journal?"

Tamblyn said she's looking forward to coming to West Virginia and is proud to be part of Poetry Out Loud.

"I like to be where there's a large group who supports poetry and good poetry shows," she said. "That's where the growth is."

Quick, go look in your phone contacts and text all the porn stars you know: Bret Easton Ellis wants YOU for his next film project!

Ellis (American Psycho, The Informers) announced via Twitter that his psycho-sexual thriller The Canyons, which documents “five twenty-somethings’ quest for power, love, sex and success in 2012 Hollywood,” is holding open auditions for four to five lead roles. The catch is that Ellis elegantly requires said leads “to act and be full frontal naked banging girls and guys realistically.”

At the top of the dream cast for the Paul Schrader-directed feature is porn star James Deen, whom Ellis is convinced is perfect to play the role of Christian, a “handsome, fit power player and major manipulator” who “enjoys setting up three-ways and filming them.” Deen, 26, was the 2009 Male Performer of the Year at the Adult Video News Awards, and has over 800 acting credits to his name, including (but not limited to) Breast Meat 3, Seduced by a Cougar 12, and The Joanna Angel Magical Threesome Adventure Experience (which was nominated for an AVN for Best DVD Extras). However, he has not yet made the transition to non-adult films.

This would not be the first time that an adult performer has attempted to engage in more mainstream entertainment endeavors. Jenna Jameson led the cast of Zombie Strippers! in 2008, but unsurprisingly, the movie didn’t exactly catch on with audiences. Traci Lords was still appearing in X-rated films when she landed a role in 1998’s Blade and a handful of guest spots on shows like Roseanne and Will & Grace. Sasha Grey notably appeared in the seventh season of Entourage as Vince’s porn star girlfriend, and she has a role in the upcoming Matthew Wilder drama Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story, based on the life of film legend Linda Lovelace, who herself has a storied history of trying to break into Hollywood after her 1972 film Deep Throat became a zeitgeist-quaking hit (although her successive projects were widely regarded as certified flops).

But where’s the success? Grey, who arguably has had the best chance of anyone with her turn on Entourage, was personally chosen by director Steven Soderbergh for his 2009 indie The Girlfriend Experience, but if Soderbergh and Ari Gold can't bring an adult actress into the mainstream world, then who can? Perhaps Ellis, with his touch for gritty, heavily sexualized depictions of wholly-flawed characters, has exactly the right formula in mind to turn Deen into a success story.

Back in the late 1980s, we were told to switch from paper bags to plastic bags because it was better for the environment. in retrospect, that was one of the stupidest societal decisions ever, at least in my view.

Tell me, what is plastic made of? Does it come from the plastic fairy? Does it come from some renewable source? if you answered yes, you are wrong. Plastics are made from petroleum. You know, that terrible stuff that comes from the ground that is routinely blamed for all of our environmental problems. Plastic is petroleum.

This is what we were told we should switch to. Even more, this is what we were forced to switch to. Paper or plastic? was a question that only lasted at supermarkets for about five to ten years. now, EVERYTHING is plastic-you don't get a choice.

It's all about saving the environment, right?

But what about paper? Do you even remember the reason we aren't supposed to use paper? Wasn't it that using paper causes trees to be cut down, or something along those lines? Yeah, I think it was. back then, we were all so worried about using a renewable resource like wood, so we switched to using a non-renewable resource-oil-instead. Wow, how smart we were.

It's time to get real. It's time to re-evaluate environmentalism. It's time to re-evaluate claims and beliefs that have simply passed unchecked into our culture. Paper bags at the grocery store aren't even an option anymore, for crying out loud.

The next time you drink a Diet Coke out of a plastic bottle, ask yourself, what will happen to this bottle once I'm finished with it? the answer is either it gets recycled in processing plants (that themselves pollute the air) or it gets thrown into a landfill where it will take many, many, MANY years to degrade. then ask yourself, what if I'd drank this Diet Coke out of a glass bottle? the answer is either it would have gotten cleaned and used again (without having to go through a polluting chemical process) or it would have ended up in the same landfill.

Ask yourself similar questions every time you use a plastic bag rather than a paper one. yes, that plastic bag can be recycled in a processing plant, but a paper bag could just as easily been as well. Plus, paper comes from a renewable resource: trees that can be replanted.

It goes without saying that a move back to wood and glass would help lighten our use of oil. Isn't that something that everybody wants?

Environmental fads are worse than fashion or language fads; once they set in they seem to stay set in even after they no longer make sense. With fashion fads, the silly bell-bottoms get thrown in the closet and forgotten-they do no one any more harm. With language fads, we simply stop calling everything far out, radical, or hella.

But with environmental fads, we end up radically changing the culture and lifestyle. bad fads don't just get discarded into the closet with our jellies. no, they degrade even slower than plastics.

And, years down the line, our children (by whom we justify our environmental fads) will ask, why did you switch to non-renewable resources when you could have kept using renewable resources? what were you thinking?

And we will shove our hands into the pockets of our bell-bottoms and reply, Shucks, we didn't know that plastics would be so hella-bad for the environment, dude.

God forgive us for how misguided we are.

Lionel Ritchie is known for his romantic, easy-listening ballads which he composed and sang himself. Songs such as Easy, three Times a Lady, Still, and Truly have topped the charts and are still very popular across the generations.

Lionel was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on June 20, 1949. He spent his early years on the campus of Tuskegee Institute and later moved to Illinois, where he completed his high school studies at Joliet Township High School, East Campus. His skills in tennis earned him a scholarship at the Tuskegee Institute where he graduated with a major in economics.

In addition to his sports activities while at school in Tuskegee, he also formed different R&B groups during the mid-60s. One of these was the Commodores that he not so much started, but joined in 1968 as a saxophonist, and unbeknown to him at the time, his future was secured. the group acted as a support act to the Jacksons who were at the height of their popularity at the time. the Commodores' first recording contract was with Atlantic Records, but they moved to Motown Records after just one recording.

This was an intelligent move, and at Motown the band established its name with danceable funky sounds such as Machine Gun and Brick House. it was also at this time that Lionel started making his way to the mainstream as a songwriter and solo performer.

He became identified with easy-listening romantic ballads which he wrote and performed himself. His songwriting skills became more appreciated and recognized during the late 1970s when he wrote songs for other artists, rather than just for himself. His composition Lady for Kenny Rogers made it to the top of the charts in 1980 and Rogers insisted that Lionel produce his album Share Your Love in 1981.

He sang a duet with Diana Ross in 1981, Endless Love, a theme song for the film of the same title. Considered as one of Motown's biggest hits, this single topped the UK and US pop charts, and in 1982, Ritchie decided to take on a solo career.

This move gave Lionel Ritchie recognition as an American singer, songwriter and record producer who sold over 100 million records. In 1982, his self-titled debut album Lionel Ritchie was able to make three hit singles. One of the three that still contained his Commodores style was the chart-topping Truly. this single launched his career to instant popularity and included him in the list as one of the most successful balladeers of the 80s. the other two hit songs that hit the top 5 were you Are and My Love.

With his first album having sold more than 4 million copies and hitting no. 3 on the charts, a follow up album titled Can't slow Down was released in 1983. this one surpassed the first, selling more that 8 million copies and won the Grammy award for Album of the Year. the album contained his no. 1 hit All Night Long, very effectively promoted by a colorful music video that enhanced the Caribbean flavor of the song.

A string of four top ten hits followed in 1994, including the Number One hit hello that took him away from his R&B image and was also his most successful recording. the other three were Stuck on you at no.3, Running with the Night at no.7, and Penny Lover at no.8.

In 1985, he wrote and performed say you, say Me which stayed no.1 in the US Charts for four weeks. this theme song for the film White Nights earned him the Number 1 song of 1985 and one critic' description of him as the black Barry Manilow. rather an insult to many of Lionel's fans another achievement of the year was his teamwork with Michael Jackson's charitable trust that resulted to the no.1 hit single we Are the World by USA for Africa.

Another successful album titled Dancing on the Ceiling was released in 1986. this contained among others his aforementioned hits say you, say Me and Dancing on the Ceiling, and also Ballerina Girl, and Se La. it is here where the effective use of music video accompanied the title cut, and was also in the same lively tempo of All Night Long (All Night). after this successful album, Ritchie's career slowed down while he was taking care of his ill father Lionel Ritchie, Sr. in Alabama who died in 1990.

In 1992, he released his album Back to front, a collection of his first greatest-hits, after which he maintained a very limited public exposure. it was in 1996 when he decided to return with the release of Louder than Words, a song that showed he had not lost his skills of well-crafted soul music. However, it did not receive the same acclaim that is 1980s works received – perhaps due to his lack of exposure over the preceding couple of years.

Lionel's married and family life was a combination of ups and downs. In 1975, he married his college sweetheart Brenda Harvey. Their marriage didn't work well and they separated, after which Lionel had a relationship with Diane Alexander in 1986. Brenda discovered the affair in 1988 and their divorce was finally declared on August 9, 1993 after 17 years of marriage.

Lionel married Diane Alexander on December 21, 1995 but divorced in January 2004. They had a son, Miles Brochman born on may 27, 1994 and a daughter Sofia born on August 26, 1998.

Although his solo singing career did not manage to take off the second time, Ritchie was still able to produce six top 80 singles in the UK after 2004. He also made a few live appearances on some special occasions, and appeared on top Gear, a British motoring TV series. the segment was Star in a Reasonably Priced Car where he was featured with his Suzuki Liana and interviewed by host Jeremy Clarkson.

He was also reunited with Kenny Rogers on a CMT crossroads special. Their friendship both in and out of the music world was featured in this November 2005 episode. Ritchie also hosted and performed on the British TV show An Audience with Lionel Ritchie on December 9, 2006. He was able to perform his hit song hello during the Grammy Awards on February 11, 2007, and the grand finale performing All Night Long (All Night) on the Australian Idol show on November 25, 2007.

His more recent performances include the new Year's Eve at Time's Square on December 31, 2008, and on the Season 8 of American idol with contestant Danny Gokey on may 20, 2009. Ritchie received the George and Ina Gershwin Lifetime Achievement Award on may 2, 2008, making him the 21st recipient of this prestigious award.

JC Chandor's "Margin Call." Chandor says: "I have been making movies in one form or another since I was seven or eight years old. There was always something that drew me to it. In my later years the financial realities and responsibilities of supporting my young family almost pulled me away from film but I gave it one last shot with 'Margin Call' and it has been a heck of a ride ever since.

"It is humbling after all these years to have our film recognized by the Spirit Awards. I have watched these proceedings from afar and am so excited to come together to celebrate a great year for independent film."

Chandor's future projects: "I am currently developing several different projects and hope one of them comes together soon so I don't have to wait another 15 years to make my next one."

'New Girl' (RTE 2, Tuesday 13th March, 8.30pm) – Jess Day is a young woman who, after discovering her long-term boyfriend is cheating on her, moves into a loft apartment with three male roommates – prickly bartender Nick, womaniser Schmidt and intense personal trainer Coach.

The guys try to help Jess get back on her feet and into the dating world. Starring Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield and Jake M Johnson, this one was a big TV hit Stateside.

'White Heat' (BBC 2, Thursday, 9pm) – As a young woman, Charlotte – a woman in her 60s – was one of seven students who lived in a shared flat, where one of them has recently passed away.

Charlotte has been made executor of the will and the remaining five are due to arrive to help her sort through the flat. As Charlotte starts work, old memories are ignited which return us to 1965, where we meet her as a 19-year-old undergraduate embarking on a journey of discovery, love and life. It's the end of the post-war era, Winston Churchill has died and the world is changing rapidly, particularly for the girls with the arrival of the contraceptive pill.

For all the flatmates, mutual and unrequited attractions segue into heady and potentially damaging sexual adventures, planting the seeds of future deceptions.

'Glee: Michael' (Sky One, Monday, 10pm) – In this season's only tribute episode, 'Glee' pays homage to Michael Jackson.

With regionals looming, the New Directions decide the only material worth performing is that of the late King of Pop. But when the Dalton Warblers and their devious new leader Sebastian (Grant Gustin) get wind of their choice, they too want to perform Jackson's classic tracks.

A musical number not to miss is 'Smooth Criminal' as Santana and Sebastian face off in a dramatic, cello-accompanied rendition of the Jackson hit.

'The World: Interviews Before Execution' (BBC 1, Monday, 11.10pm) – Every Saturday night in China, millions of people gather around their televisions to watch 'Interviews Before Execution', an extraordinary talk show which interviews prisoners on death row.

In the weeks, days or even minutes before they are executed, presenter Ding Yu goes into prisons and talks to those condemned to die. In China, 55 crimes carry the death penalty. As a warning to others, the Chinese authorities have traditionally paraded prisoners through the streets before execution. Here they use a TV show on a state-owned channel.

It's a top-rated show in Henan province and has made its presenter a star. Ding Yu, however, sees herself as more than just a reporter. She often goes to great lengths to track down family members and pass on prisoners' messages to their loved ones.

'Bill Joel: Live At Shea' (Sky Arts, Monday, 10pm) – Chosen as the last rock act to play at the legendary venue before it was torn down in 2009, Billy Joel gives fans a poignant rendition of his classic hits at New York's Shea Stadium.

He is joined by Paul McCartney, who waves goodbye to the venue of the famously wild Beatles concert in August 1965, with versions of 'I Saw Her Standing There' and 'Let It Be'. Tony Bennett treats the sell-out crowd to 'New York State Of Mind', while Garth Brooks performs 'Shameless' and John Mayer gives a rousing rendition of 'This Is The Time'.

Amid performances from top guests, six-time Grammy award winner Joel's own act is sensational. He says goodbye to the stadium in an incredible send-off, with songs including 'Piano Man' and 'The River Of Dreams'.

Milo Ventimiglia, il Jess di Una mamma per amica, parteciperà al pilot della nuova serie L. A. Noir. Il crime drama di TNT si ispira al celebre romanzo di John Buntin “L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City” e sarà scritto, diretto e prodotto a livello esecutivo da Frank Darabont, l’ex showrunner di The Walking Dead. Insieme a lui ci saranno i produttori Mike De Luca (The Social Network) ed Elliot Webb. La serie sarà ambientata nella Los Angeles degli anni 40-50.e racconterà la vita segreta di polizia e criminalità. Milo Ventimiglia vestirà i panni di Ned Stax, un ex marine che ha servito la patria durante la seconda guerra mondiale e che ora svolge la professione di avvocato. Accanto a Milo Ventimiglia ci sarà anche l’attore Jon Bernthal, lo Shane di The Walking Dead, che interpreterà Joe Teague, un collega di Stax ai tempi della guerra.
